Camper Safety
Safety! The cornerstone of what we do at Armada PAL Camp is making each child's safety our highest priority. Our safety standards are designed to meet or exceed the requirements of the American Camp Association, with the underlying desire to treat each camper as if they were our own.
Trained ProfessionalsYour child's safety is our number one priority while they attend camp. While we cannot completely eliminate the possibility of a child becoming ill or being injured while at PAL Camp, we do recognize that before the "camp experience" can be anything else to the child, it must be a secure environment for the child to learn and grow. That is why we thoroughly train our staff and employ stringent safety and health standards.
Our goal is to treat your child "like one of our own." One of the ways we strive to do this is by taking a comprehensive approach to your child's health and wellness. Ways we do this include, but are not limited to, medication dispensation, allergy management plans and a proactive and preventative approach to sanitizing and disease control. In addition, we place a strong emphasis on following the "Big 5" which includes Hand Washing, Hydration, Nutrition, Rest and Sun Protection. |
Medical NeedsArmada PAL Camp is staffed with a licensed, on-site Registered Nurse and a Health Director who are always on call to assess and implement emergency services as needed. Sometimes at camp, illnesses or emergencies occur that are out of anyone's control. Our medical team is here to make sure all of our campers stay safe and focus on the most important part of camp, FUN! Our nurse organizes and distributes medications, treats minor illnesses and injuries and promotes preventative measures. In addition, Armada PAL Camp has access to Ambulance and Emergency Room services in nearby Cadillac. Please make sure to fill out a health form and drop off your medications with the nurse on the day we leave for camp to make sure your child has everything they need to have a healthy week!
Safety on the WaterfrontOur Waterfront is equipped with a swimming area, waterslide, boats, and a blob for maximum fun! Although the waterfront is arguably the most fun part of camp, Armada PAL Camp takes waterfront safety very seriously. After arriving at camp, each camper will partake in a swimming test, accompanied by our lifeguards. This swim test ensures that campers are comfortable and confident while swimming in Center Lake. If your child is not a strong swimmer, don’t worry! We have a shallow swimming area for campers who aren't quite ready for the big water. Our waterfront director, Vince, specially trains our lifeguards for camp specific scenarios and they keep a very close eye on our campers while swimming! Each staff member who works the waterfront ensure safety with a “Check-in, Check-out” system, and frequent “Buddy Checks” while campers are enjoying beautiful Center Lake.
Our Lifeguards hold a Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification through the Red Cross that is renewed every 2 years. Each year, our lifeguards go through camp specific training with our waterfront director, and many of them utilize their lifeguard training outside of camp as well. We run a very tight ship to make sure the waterfront is a fun, but safe place for our campers! |
Kindness Matters
Armada PAL Camp firmly believes that all campers deserve to have an "incomparable" camp experience, and, while rare, any camper behavior that negatively affects the experience of others should be addressed in a decisive and timely fashion. Our staff attends extensive training on how to handle situations such as bullying, violence, harassment and other behavioral issues. Our staff also receives training regarding youth mental health issues such as Anxiety, Depression, Attention Deficit Disorder, and other issues that may affect your child while they are attending camp. Armada PAL Camp is a place of friendship, love and inclusion. We truly believe that every kid deserves a PAL!
